Adding your phone number is now a requirement on OkCupid. You'll need it to create a new account, or (if you already have an account) to send messages or intros. Confirming your phone number helps keep your account safe and secure, and makes it easier for you to log in to OkCupid. Since it's safer and more convenient, it's a clear win-win.

If you can't receive SMS messages

We confirm your phone number by sending a code via SMS. This means that you must have a device which can receive SMS messages, like a mobile phone. We cannot verify via landline, certain internet-based phone services, or certain texting apps. If you are not able to receive an SMS, you will be unable to create an OkCupid account, or send messages and intros from an existing account. At this time we do not have any workarounds or exceptions to this rule. If your number is not compatible with SMS, you will need to use another number.

If you see a message that your number is already in use

A phone number can only be verified on one OkCupid account at a time. This is because our Community Guidelines state that you may only have one active OkCupid account. To free up your phone number to use on your current account, you'll need to sign into and delete your other account. To do this:

1. From Settings, log out of your current account
2. Choose 'log in with phone'
3. Enter your phone number and the SMS code to log into the account that is currently linked to your number
4. Once you're logged in, go to your Settings page and delete the account.
5. You can then log into your other account and add your number there.

If you're trying to sign up with your phone number, but aren't receiving a verification code

1. First, make sure you entered the correct number. This sounds silly, but it's easy to type in the wrong number! You'll also want to make sure that the correct country code is selected.
2. If you're still not seeing a code, you may want to contact your mobile carrier to ensure that “Message Blocking” is disabled. It could be that our code is getting automatically blocked as potential spam which is why you're not getting it.
3. We cannot verify via landline, certain internet-based phone services, or certain texting apps. If you are not able to receive an SMS, you will be unable to create an OkCupid account, or send messages and intros from an existing account. If your number is not compatible with SMS, you will need to use another number.
4. You'll also want to make sure that you have proper reception on your phone and can currently receive SMS messages to the number you are adding.
5. Sometimes there are brief connection issues with sending an SMS - if you don't receive a code or get an error message, it's worth trying again in a few minutes.

If your number has changed

Okcupid Mobile Login

If your phone number has changed, you should be able to sign into your account using your email address and password as long as you're signing in from a device that you've verified in the past. Once you've signed into the account, you can follow the steps below to change your phone number:

• Open OkCupid
• Tap/click 'Sign in'
• Submit the email address and password for your OkCupid account select the 'next' button don't hit the enter key or you'll be asked to verify your phone number.
• Once you're logged in, follow the steps above to update your phone number

If you get a code but didn't request one

It's likely someone got confused about their number or accidentally entered yours. We recommend blocking the number you're receiving the verification text messages from so that they stop coming through.
If you ever do want to sign up for OkCupid, you'll need to make sure to unblock the number so you can verify your account.

If someone asks you to send them your code

Do not ever share your SMS code with anyone else. If someone says 'I just sent you a code from OkCupid, what is it?' this is a scam! They are trying to use your number on their account. If this happens, please email customer support and let us know.

How to add SMS on your phone

1. Go to your Profile by clicking the 'profile' icon on the bottom right menu
2. Click on 'Account Settings'
3. Click on 'Phone number'
4. Click on 'Add phone number'
5. Enter your phone number and submit
6. We will text you a code
7. Enter the code in our app and submit!

How to add SMS on the website

1. You should see a prompt to add a phone number. Click 'enter phone number'
2. If you've already dismissed that page, then go to 'Settings' from the menu at the top right of OkCupid. Click on 'Add phone number'
3. Enter your phone number and submit
4. We will text you a code
5. Enter the code in our app and submit!

If you need to update your phone number

• On the app
  1. Open OkCupid
  2. Tap on Profile
  3. Tap on Account settings
  4. Tap on Phone
  5. Enter your new phone number and follow the steps to verify!
• On the website

  3. Click on Settings
  4. Click on 'Edit Phone'
  5. Enter your new phone number and follow the steps to verify!

Account recovery

If you can't sign in to your account because your phone number's changed, try to log in with your email address and password.

1. Open OkCupid
2. Tap/click 'Sign in'
3. Enter the email address and password for your OkCupid account
4. Once you're logged in, follow the steps above to update your phone number

Login with Facebook

Unfortunately, login with Facebook is no longer possible on the iOS app. We recommend that you:

• Use Android, mobile web, or desktop to log in
• Send a reset password link (see below)
• Make sure to add a new password and SMS to log in going forward

If you don't remember your password, you can have a login link emailed to you here. You'll want to enter the email address linked to your OkCupid profile.

Errors

Problems sometimes occur if many different people sign in to their accounts from a single machine. In this case, clearing your web browser's cache (or reinstalling the app, if you're using it) may remedy the problem. If you can't remember your account details

If you have a free account on OkCupid and cannot remember the email address on your account (or you don't have access to the email address any more) AND you don't know the password, then unfortunately for security reasons, we will not be able to verify that you are the account owner and cannot give you access to your profile.
If you are a paid member, we may be able to help verify and find your account via your billing details.

Deleted for Inactivity

Our Privacy Policy states that we must delete accounts after 2 years of continuous inactivity. If you have not logged into your account for more than 2 years and are not able to log into it now, it is likely this is the reason. Unfortunately we cannot restore deleted accounts for any reason.
If your account has been deleted, you can create a new account with the same email address you used before. A lot has changed on OkCupid in the last few years, especially with profile layout, so it's actually a good idea to start over from the beginning so you don't miss any of the new options.

Terms of Service violation/ suspended account

If you see an error showing a terms of service violation or that your account was suspended, it means your account has been banned and deleted. You can review our terms here and our community guidelines here. To protect the anonymity of the members who may have reported the account, we do not tell people why they were banned. To allow our moderation team to focus on current reports and issues, we only review suspension appeals if all other moderation work (such as reviewing reported accounts) is up to date.
